Strataglass is a scratch resistant, UV blocking, coated press polished vinyl. What makes Strataglass so obviously superior starts with the raw material, the chemical makeup of the calendared vinyl. Ordinary vinyl is loaded with "UV inhibitors"; this chemical additive makes the vinyl appear as blue in color, even hazy. Strataglass introduces only a minimal amount of UV inhibitors into the vinyl, then adds a UV blocking coating to the surface of the vinyl. The coated vinyl is then press polished for a superior finish.
Strataglass will not become etched by industrial fallout including power plant exhaust, airplane exhaust, unspent fuel, or runoff from grommets. The scratch-resistant finish of Strataglass will also eliminate the hours of labor required to polish out scratches put into the vinyl from fabrication and installation.

It is extremely important that this information be read & understood by the fabricator and be given to the owner of the vessel (or auto)!!!
DO NOT USE RAINEX ON STRATAGLASS!!! It will work well as a water shed for a period of time, then begin to build up and dull out, it will also make the surface of the vinyl appear to have an "orange peel" effect.
DO NOT use cleaners, polishes, scratch removers, etc. that are made for regular, uncoated vinyl. We recommend only mild boat soap & water or vinegar & water and the regular use of IMAR Products (See below for other recommendations).
DO NOT HANDLE STRATAGLASS (OR ANY VINYL) WITH SUNSCREEN ON YOUR HANDS!!! This will permanently cloud the vinyl where handled!!!
General Maintenance:
The makers of Strataglass™ and Crystal Clear 20/20™ exclusively endorse IMAR™ Strataglass Protective Polish and IMAR™ Strataglass Protective Cleaner and for maximum benefit recommend the regular use of these products with Strataglass and Crystal Clear 20/20.
- Flush the surface with water to cool the surface and rinse away salt and other environmental abrasives. Wash with IMAR Yacht Soap Concentrate (#401), or other equally gentle and high quality soap. Apply the soapy water to the clear vinyl section of the curtain with special purpose washing mitts or soft cotton cloths. Thoroughly rinse the soapy solution away with fresh water and completely dry the curtains with a high quality chamois. (Strataglass endorses several tools sold by Swobbit to make these tasks easier). Your clear vinyl curtains should be washed whenever your boat is washed.
- After washing the curtains, apply IMAR Strataglass Protective Polish (#302) sparingly with small, light, circular motions using a soft cotton cloth. Allow the polish to dry and then remove with clean soft cotton cloth. Finally, lightly buff to a sparkling shine. Done. IMAR Strataglass Protective Polish should be used every 2 to 3 months, and every 4 to 6 weeks in areas of high pollution.
- For routine maintenance between polishing, use IMAR Strataglass Protective Cleaner . Ensure the clear vinyl panels are free of abrasives; very lightly mist a soft cotton cloth. Lightly and briskly rub a manageable sized area and then lightly buff dry with another clean cloth. Done. We recommend using IMAR Strataglass cleaner at least weekly, but it's so fast and easy you may want to do it daily. You'll love the shine.
PLEASE REMEMBER THESE IMPORTANT NOTES:
- Any product can be misused and abused. For maximum satisfaction with IMAR Yacht Detailing Products please follow our easy instructions.
- Strataglass is the highest quality, scratch resistant (not scratch proof) clear vinyl available. With reasonable care Strataglass will give complete satisfaction for years to come.
- Remember to keep clear vinyl free of suntan lotion, hair cream, hand cream and all other chemicals except the IMAR products recommended by Strataglass.
NOTE: You will not be able to restore the finish if it is severely damaged.... maintain it with the right product from the beginning.
NOTE: We do not recommend any other cleaners or polishes-despite many manufacturers' claims to the contrary, most will do damage to Strataglass over time.
Note: Roll all curtains down and fasten in place nightly to keep perfect appearance. |
